Thursday Night Football gave us 353 yards, 24 first downs and a lot of Seahawks offense that never became points. Denver took it anyway.

The
Broncos beat the
Seahawks 17-14 in overtime on Thursday night at Empower Field at Mile High, and the winning play was a 53-yard field goal by Wil Lutz after Ja'Quan McMillian jumped a pass in overtime. Denver moves to 4-2. The defending champion Seahawks fall to 3-3. If you want the full numbers, the box score has them, and the rest of this recap is the part where we try to explain how a team gains 353 yards and loses.
FINAL SCORE AND HOW IT HAPPENED
- Final: Denver 17, Seattle 14, in overtime.
- First quarter: Jason Myers hit a 55-yard field goal for Seattle. 3-0 Seahawks.
- Second quarter: J.K. Dobbins ran in from 4 yards out, and RJ Harvey added a 1-yard touchdown run later in the half. 14-3 Broncos at the break.
- Third quarter: nobody scored, which is the kind of thing that happens on Thursday night.
- Fourth quarter: George Holani scored from a yard out to finish an 11-play, 67-yard drive, and Sam Darnold hit Rashid Shaheed on a tipped two-point conversion to make it 14-11. Myers then kicked a 34-yard field goal with seven seconds left to tie it at 14.
- Overtime: McMillian intercepted a pass intended for Shaheed, and Lutz won it from 53 yards with 4:53 left in the extra period.
Seattle was the better team by every measure except the one that counts. The Seahawks outgained Denver 353 yards to 168, had 24 first downs to 13 and held the ball for 35:38 to Denver's 29:29. They also turned it over three times, missed a field goal and were 1-for-2 in the red zone, while Denver was 2-for-2. Moral victories are not on the standings page.

It sacked Darnold five times, hit him 17 times and intercepted him twice, one in the fourth quarter and the game-changing one in overtime. The NFL defense stats and the NFL offense stats show how that pass rush and Seattle's protection have compared with the rest of the league all season, and the NFL depth charts show who is playing where.
THE DEFENSES AND THE KICKERS
Seattle's defense deserves better than a loss. It held Denver to 168 yards, forced six three-and-outs and stopped the Broncos on 11 of 14 third downs, and Denver punted eight times. The problem is that the Seahawks recorded only two sacks and no takeaways, and when your offense gives the ball away three times, the defense runs out of rope. Check the NFL defense stats for how both units rank across the league.
The kickers decided the night. Myers made a 55-yarder and a 34-yarder to keep Seattle alive, and missed one. Lutz made his only attempt, from 53 yards, in overtime. Special teams rarely get a column, but this game was close enough that a missed kick on one side and a made kick on the other were the margin.
THE QUARTERBACKS: ONE BAD NIGHT AND ONE QUIET NIGHT
Sam Darnold went 27 of 51 for 278 yards with no touchdowns and two interceptions, a 52.6 passer rating, and he was sacked five times for 38 yards. That is a lot of throws for a lot of nothing. He was good enough to move the ball and not good enough to finish drives, and the comeback was a touchdown drive, a two-point conversion and a field goal with seven seconds left.
Bo Nix went 17 of 27 for 107 yards, no touchdowns and no interceptions, and he was sacked twice. That is about four yards per attempt, and the Broncos won anyway. Denver's offense came in struggling to stretch the field, and the plan apparently was to prove it with 168 total yards. The passing volume board tracks attempts and interceptions for every quarterback in the league, and the defense vs. quarterbacks shows how opposing passers have fared against each defense.
PLAYER STAT LINES
- Jaxon Smith-Njigba, Seahawks: 12 catches for 134 yards. After a week of ankle questions, he caught 12 passes and was Seattle's offense.

- Emanuel Wilson, Seahawks: 14 carries for 52 yards.
- George Holani, Seahawks: 5 carries for 20 yards and a touchdown.
- Jason Myers, Seahawks kicker: a 55-yarder, a 34-yarder and a missed attempt.
- Bo Nix, Broncos: 17 of 27, 107 yards, 0 touchdowns, 0 interceptions.
- J.K. Dobbins, Broncos: 17 carries for 41 yards and a touchdown.
- RJ Harvey, Broncos: 6 carries for 25 yards and a touchdown, plus 3 catches for 31 yards.
- Jaylen Waddle, Broncos: 4 catches for 24 yards.
- Wil Lutz, Broncos kicker: the 53-yard game-winner and both extra points.
- Ja'Quan McMillian, Broncos cornerback: the overtime interception.
FANTASY FOOTBALL AND DFS TAKEAWAYS
The biggest fantasy lesson is that volume and points are not the same thing. Seattle ran 82 plays to Denver's 57 and scored one touchdown to Denver's two. Smith-Njigba is the clear winner: he has 134 yards in a game his quarterback struggled, and his role is not in question. The NFL DFS value page shows how the passing game fits together, and the defense vs. wide receivers shows what receivers have done against each defense.
Seattle backfield. Wilson got the carries and Holani got the touchdown, and with Zach Charbonnet still out the split is the thing to watch. The NFL depth charts and the start/sit board show who is getting the work, and the defense vs. running backs shows how each defense has held up against backs.
Denver backfield. Dobbins and Harvey both scored and neither ran for a lot of yards. Harvey added a few catches. Both scoring makes this a committee to watch. Waddle caught four passes for 24 yards in an offense that is trying to find its identity.
DFS. One low-scoring game should inform projections without overriding a full-season sample. Recheck the NFL DFS lineups and run your pool through the lineup shuffler before the next slate. The start/sit board ranks your options by position, and the fantasy football rankings lists everyone.
PROP BET REVIEW: HOW TO CHECK A HIT RATE
We do not quote lines or prices here, but you can check any of these against your own numbers. The most useful categories to review after this game are passing yards and touchdowns, rushing attempts and yards, receptions and receiving yards, and anytime touchdown scorers. Open the NFL prop hit rate board for the full list, check any player and any number on the prop hit rate checker, and see every posted market on the NFL player props page.
A hit rate means more with context. Look at how many games are in the sample, the exact threshold, and whether the player was active. A player who clears a number in most recent games has not necessarily been profitable at the price offered. For the math, the odds converter and the parlay calculator turn any price into a probability, and the Sports Betting Strategy Book shows how to think about it.
THE BETTING RESULT
Denver won straight up. The game went to overtime after regulation ended 14-14, so check how your own ticket was settled. Our call on the game and how it turned out live on the NFL verdicts page and nowhere else. The NFL against the spread page and the NFL unders page show how both teams have done against the number this season, the NFL spots page covers the game environment, and the NFL AI parlay generator explains how a parlay is built. Parlays are high-risk, every extra leg is another way to lose, and no ticket is guaranteed.
STANDINGS AND POWER RANKINGS
Denver is 4-2. In the AFC West the Chiefs are 4-0, the Broncos are 4-2, the Raiders are 3-2 and the Chargers are 0-5. Seattle is 3-3 in the NFC West, behind the unbeaten 49ers and ahead of the Rams (2-3) and the Cardinals (1-4). Those other records are from before this weekend's games.
A result like this should not trigger a dramatic overhaul of the NFL power rankings. Opponent quality, point differential, injuries and season-long performance all matter. Seattle gained 353 yards and lost. Denver gained 168 and won. Both of those things are true, and neither is a trend yet.
WHAT'S NEXT
- Seattle: hosts Kansas City on Sunday, October 25, on Sunday Night Football, then hosts Chicago on Monday Night Football on November 2.
- Denver: visits Arizona on Sunday, October 25, then hosts Kansas City on November 1.
Both games on October 25 are on the Week 7 schedule, with every matchup, line and prop on the Week 7 matchups page. Check the NFL injuries page and the NFL player news for post-game injury news before you set a lineup. Seattle will want its offense to finally match its yardage, and Denver will want a quarterback who throws for more than 107 yards. The NFL transactions page lists every move as it happens.
The best way to read this game is to split it into what is repeatable and what is not. Smith-Njigba's role is repeatable. Denver's pass rush is repeatable. Winning a game with 168 yards is not, and neither is losing one with 353. Follow the next one on the live scoreboard and the NFL hub.
