Friday gives us a compact three-game NHL slate. That means less room to hide in DFS and fewer games to choose from when building parlays. We need to focus on the players getting the minutes, the power-play time and the shots. Every stat below comes from our own box scores this season, and every line is from our board.
Tonight's games:
- 7:00 PM ET: Columbus Blue Jackets at Buffalo Sabres (simulator | our pick)
- 8:00 PM ET: San Jose Sharks at Minnesota Wild (simulator | our pick)
- 8:00 PM ET: Anaheim Ducks at Calgary Flames (simulator | our pick)
Game 1: Blue Jackets at Sabres, 7:00 PM ET
From our board: Columbus +140, Buffalo -170. Puck line Buffalo -1.5. Total 6.5. simulator | our pick
Buffalo (7-5-3) is the favorite, but don't overlook Columbus (7-7). The Blue Jackets beat Dallas 2-1 in a shootout Thursday (box score), while Buffalo is coming off a 2-1 loss to Ottawa on Wednesday (box score). Columbus also won the first meeting 6-3 on October 1 (box score).
Tage Thompson is the big name for Buffalo. He leads the Sabres with 10 goals and 18 points and has a four-game point streak. Kent Johnson leads Columbus with seven goals and 14 points and carries a six-game point streak into this one.
Players to watch:
- Tage Thompson: goal, points and shots.
- Kent Johnson: points and shots.
- Charlie Coyle: 10 assists, and points in eight of 14 games.
- Rasmus Dahlin: shots, assists and power-play production.
- Zach Werenski: 12 assists and a five-game point streak.
- Zach Benson: 12 assists and points in five straight.
DFS angle: Thompson is the offensive centerpiece, and Dahlin gives you exposure to Buffalo's power play. Coyle is an interesting value, with points in eight of 14 games. See the depth on the Sabres and Blue Jackets team pages.
Prop to watch: Charlie Coyle 1+ point. He had two goals and two assists in Tuesday's 7-2 win over Colorado (box score), though he was held off the scoresheet Thursday. Compare the price on our NHL player props page.
Columbus has already shown it can beat this team. Our side on the game is on our pick, and the simulator plays it out 10,000 times.
Game 2: Sharks at Wild, 8:00 PM ET
From our board: San Jose +202, Minnesota -250. Puck line Minnesota -1.5. Total 6.5. simulator | our pick
This is the matchup that jumps off the page for fantasy and DFS.
Minnesota is one of the league's best teams at 11-3-3 and allows a league-low 2.24 goals a game. San Jose is 7-9-1, has lost three straight, and gave up seven at Los Angeles on Wednesday (box score). The Sharks allow 3.59 goals a game, fifth-most in the league.
Matt Boldy is one of the most attractive prop targets on the slate. Minnesota's top line with Boldy, Joel Eriksson Ek and Kirill Kaprizov has been producing, and all three, plus Quinn Hughes, take six-game point streaks into tonight.
Kaprizov leads the Wild with 15 goals and 26 points, and Hughes has 17 assists. Minnesota won 4-2 at Philadelphia on Tuesday (box score).
Players to watch:
- Matt Boldy: assists, points and shots.
- Kirill Kaprizov: goals, points and shots.
- Joel Eriksson Ek: points and shots.
- Quinn Hughes: assists, shots and power-play production.
- Macklin Celebrini: San Jose's leader with 17 points.
- Yaroslav Askarov: the goalie matchup and save props. He allowed seven on 26 shots Wednesday.
DFS angle: Minnesota is where I want exposure. Boldy and Kaprizov offer high-end upside, and Hughes is a defenseman who contributes in multiple categories. Stack the line with the DFS correlation calculator.
Prop to watch: Matt Boldy 1+ assist. He's recorded an assist in seven of his last 10 games. Compare the price on our NHL player props page.
The bigger fantasy opportunity is stacking Minnesota's top unit. If the Sharks can't get the puck out of their own end, this could be a long night. Our side is on our pick.
Game 3: Ducks at Flames, 8:00 PM ET
From our board: Anaheim +112, Calgary -134. Puck line Calgary -1.5. Total 6.5. simulator | our pick
This is the closest matchup on the board.
Anaheim (8-7-1) is on the second night of a back-to-back after winning 5-4 at Edmonton on Thursday (box score). That matters for fatigue, defensive coverage and the goaltending workload.
Calgary (7-8-1) has a chance to take advantage, but neither team defends well: Anaheim allows 3.81 goals a game (third-most) and Calgary 3.44 (ninth-most). The Flames lost 2-1 in overtime at Seattle on Wednesday (box score). Anaheim won at Calgary 4-2 on October 10, and Calgary won the rematch 4-2 in Anaheim on October 13.
Matt Coronato leads Calgary with 11 assists. Joel Farabee leads the Flames with 15 points.
Players to watch:
- Matt Coronato: assists and points.
- Cutter Gauthier: 11 goals and a six-game point streak.
- Leo Carlsson: Anaheim's leader with 24 points (19 assists) and a six-game point streak.
- Beckett Sennecke: 10 goals and 19 points.
- Dustin Wolf: saves and goals allowed.
- Lukas Dostal: save props, if he starts. Laurent Brossoit played Thursday.
DFS angle: Coronato is an interesting value because of his playmaking. For Anaheim exposure, Gauthier and Carlsson are the names.
Prop to watch: Matt Coronato 1+ assist. He leads Calgary in assists, though he has assists in five of his last 10 games. Compare the price on our NHL player props page.
I'm more interested in the player markets here than either side. Our call on the game is on our pick.
Tonight's DFS Value Board
Check prices against ice time on the NHL DFS value board and NHL start/sit board.
Top-tier targets
- Kirill Kaprizov: 26 points in 17 games.
- Matt Boldy: points and assists.
- Tage Thompson: Buffalo's leading scorer.
- Quinn Hughes: a defenseman with 22 points.
- Leo Carlsson: 24 points and a six-game streak.
Mid-range targets
- Charlie Coyle: power-play role and point potential.
- Matt Coronato: Calgary's assist leader.
- Kent Johnson: six-game point streak.
- Zach Werenski: 12 assists and power-play time.
- Cutter Gauthier: 11 goals.
Value considerations
- Buffalo's secondary scorers, led by Zach Benson (12 assists) and Jack Quinn (8 goals).
- Columbus power-play exposure.
- Calgary's top-line options.
One important DFS rule tonight: don't force a player in just because he's cheap. With three games, ownership concentrates fast. Look for players whose ice time and power-play roles justify their salaries. The NHL points leaders, power-play stats and hot players tonight show who's producing.

Goaltenders and Starting Lineups
No starter is officially confirmed yet, so check team announcements and warmups before locking DFS lineups or goalie props. Track the numbers on our NHL goaltending stats page.
- Columbus at Buffalo: Cam Talbot is projected for Columbus even though he played all 65 minutes Thursday. Colten Ellis, who started Wednesday, is projected for Buffalo, and Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen is the other option.
- San Jose at Minnesota: Jesper Wallstedt is reported to be starting for Minnesota, his fifth straight start (3-0-1 with a .924 save percentage in his last four). Yaroslav Askarov is projected for San Jose.
- Anaheim at Calgary: Dustin Wolf is projected for Calgary. Lukas Dostal is projected for Anaheim after Brossoit played Thursday.
Minnesota's Boldy, Eriksson Ek and Kaprizov combination is the key offensive unit to monitor.

FantasyDailies Final Take
My favorite matchup for fantasy production is San Jose at Minnesota. The Wild have the strongest edge on the slate, and Boldy, Kaprizov and Eriksson Ek give us multiple ways to attack it.
My favorite individual prop is Charlie Coyle 1+ point. My favorite assist prop is Matt Boldy 1+ assist, with Coronato's assist also in play.
For DFS, start with Minnesota's top line, then build around the Buffalo and Calgary values. Watch for confirmed goalies and final line combinations before locking anything in. Every side and total is on our NHL picks, and the NHL Game Simulator and NHL odds heat map show where the numbers sit.
Three games. A small player pool. No reason to get reckless. Find the best matchups and make every roster spot count.
