The 162-game grind is over. Every regular-season game has been played, the bracket is set, and the Wild Card Series starts Tuesday.
The 2026 regular season produced a fascinating final picture, with the
Dodgers,
Brewers and
Rays finishing among baseball's elite while the AL West went down to the literal final pitch. The full postseason schedule and the MLB hub have everything from here.
THE FINAL STANDINGS
The
Dodgers finished 100-62, the National League's best record. The
Brewers finished 103-59, the best record in baseball.
Braves won the NL East at 94-68, and the
Padres claimed a Wild Card spot at 91-71.
The American League was led by
Rays at 98-64, followed by the
Yankees at 93-68 and the
Red Sox at 87-75, both in on the Wild Card. The
Guardians won the AL Central at 85-77, and the
White Sox grabbed the final AL Wild Card at 84-78.
The standings create an important distinction for fantasy and betting players. A team's regular-season record does not necessarily tell you how aggressively it managed its roster once postseason positioning was secured, and that matters when you go back and evaluate how those final-week player props actually played out.
THE AL WEST WENT DOWN TO THE LAST PITCH
Astros and
Rangers entered Sunday tied at 80-81. Houston beat Oakland 9-0, and Texas lost to Minnesota 6-4. That gave Houston the division outright, 81-81 to 80-82, though the Astros had already clinched on the tiebreaker the moment Texas's loss went final, since Houston won the season series 9-4.
Houston's 81-81 is the fewest wins ever posted by a division winner in MLB history. Manager Joe Espada presented Yordan Alvarez with a championship belt in the clubhouse afterward, and with the game already in hand, Houston rested its high-leverage relievers for the week ahead.
The loser did not simply drop into a Wild Card position. Texas is out, eliminated the moment that final score went final. That is exactly the kind of margin that made the AL West finale one of the most consequential games on the entire board, and it is why motivation and roster management matter so much once positioning is on the line: team streaks and the starting pitcher tracker are the fastest way to see who was pushing and who was coasting in exactly this kind of spot.
THE WILD CARD SERIES: WHO PLAYS WHO
Astros enters as the No. 3 AL seed and hosts the No. 6
White Sox at Daikin Park. Game 1 is Tuesday at 5 p.m. ET.
Red Sox, the No. 5 seed, travels to face the No. 4
Yankees at 8 p.m. ET Tuesday.
On the NL side, the No. 5
Cubs visit the No. 4
Padres at 10 p.m. ET Tuesday. Philadelphia clinched the final NL Wild Card spot Sunday behind home runs from Bryce Harper and Edmundo Sosa and a strong start from Zack Wheeler, edging out Arizona, which finished 86-76 and missed the postseason by three or fewer games for the third straight season.
Our call on every Wild Card game is up, and every postseason prop is live now that the full bracket is set.
FANTASY BASEBALL: THE GAME CHANGES NOW
This is where fantasy players have to stop looking at baseball like it is June.
A star who normally plays six or seven innings may suddenly receive a day off. A starting pitcher could have his workload managed. A player fighting for a batting title may receive additional plate appearances. A team with nothing left to accomplish may experiment with younger players.
That creates opportunity. For DFS, the most important questions are not simply who is the best player. They are: who is actually in the lineup, who has something to play for, who is facing a meaningful pitching matchup, which pitchers are expected to work deep enough to accumulate strikeouts, which bullpen is being protected for October, and which players have favorable platoon matchups.
The starting pitcher tracker and player news carry exactly this kind of role and workload information in real time.
PLAYER PROPS: LOOK AT THE LINE, NOT JUST THE NAME
Postseason baseball is particularly dangerous for blindly betting superstar props. A player can be one of the best hitters in the sport and still be a poor prop wager if his team has nothing left to prove. Conversely, a less glamorous player hitting near the top of a fully motivated lineup can become extremely interesting.
Current prop boards include hits, total bases, runs, RBIs, home runs, strikeouts, pitcher outs recorded, walks and stolen bases. The current market is enormous, with thousands of MLB lines available across the Wild Card slate. Every prop at the best price and BetScore to rank them are the place to start.
THE HOME RUN MARKET
One of the most interesting prop categories is the home run market. Recent analysis has highlighted names including Miguel Vargas, Elly De La Cruz and Corey Seager among the players drawing attention in that market.
The key with home run props is price. A plus-money hitter does not need to be the most likely player to homer, the question is whether the price accurately reflects the probability. That is a completely different calculation from simply asking who is most likely to hit one. The home run leaderboard, devig and implied probability turn that question into an actual number.
INJURIES: THE LAST-MINUTE PROBLEM
The postseason creates a unique injury situation. Teams do not necessarily treat every player the same way. A team may be extremely conservative with a veteran who has a minor issue, or could shut a player down completely once there is nothing left to gain.
Verify the official lineup and starting pitcher announcement immediately before placing a wager. A prop that looked attractive three hours earlier can look completely different after a lineup scratch. Weather matters here too, wind and temperature swing home run and total props more than almost anything else on the board.
BETTING LINES: DO NOT CHASE THE BIG FAVORITE
The biggest mistake in October is assuming the best team automatically represents the best betting opportunity. Baseball does not work that way. A -200 favorite does not become a good wager simply because the team is better, the opponent's starting pitcher, bullpen availability, lineup construction, motivation and park environment all matter. The Line Checker, the odds converter and Kelly help size and verify a number before you bet it.
PROJECTION BOARD: TEAMS TO MONITOR
Dodgers, championship pressure. The 100-win Dodgers enter October with enormous expectations. Watch lineup construction and pitching workload closely.
Brewers, 103-win regular season. Milwaukee's league-best record makes them one of the central teams to monitor heading into October.
Rays, 98 wins. Tampa Bay's AL East title gives them the No. 1 AL seed and removes some of the uncertainty around final-week motivation.
Yankees, 93 wins. New York enters October after another strong regular season, with the AL East race already decided behind Tampa Bay.
Astros, AL West champions at 81-81. The lowest-win division winner in history is exactly the kind of team where roster management down the stretch, and again in October, is worth watching closer than the record suggests.
DFS STRATEGY FOR THE WILD CARD SERIES
The opening round is not about blindly loading up on the biggest names, it is about information. Before locking your lineup: check the starting lineups, confirm starting pitchers, check bullpen usage from the previous two days, identify who has real motivation, look for players batting near the top of the order, check platoon advantages, and watch weather and park conditions. Do not assume a superstar gets a normal workload, and do not build a lineup at noon and forget about it until first pitch.
DFS Edge, the slip builder and the start/sit board are built for exactly this kind of last-minute check.
THE BIGGEST BETTING STORY
The Wild Card round is where motivation becomes part of the handicap. A team that fought to the final pitch for its division is not necessarily more talented than a team that clinched three weeks ago, it simply has a different kind of momentum walking in. Houston and Texas showed exactly why the final games of a season can produce completely different environments than the ninety-nine that came before them.
FANTASYDAILIES FINAL TAKE
The regular season is over. Now the game changes.
For fantasy players, it is about opportunity and playing time. For DFS players, it is about lineup confirmation and matchup data. For bettors, it is about price, motivation and information. And for anyone betting player props, the most important number on the screen is not the player's season average, it is the number sitting next to over and under.
The postseason is here. And suddenly, every at-bat matters a whole lot more.
Import your team, let the Roster Doctor grade everyone you own, and settle the close calls in Start or Sit or the start/sit board. Build a parlay off the Wild Card slate, grade it in the Parlay Doctor, and check who's hot tonight before first pitch.
Every call we make is on the verdict slate, and the calibration page shows whether that confidence has meant anything over the season. MLB trivia is there if you just want to settle an argument before Game 1.
