2026-27 NHL Schedule: The First 84-Game Season, Every Club's Back-To-Backs Counted, And The Holiday Week That Decides Trades

By FantasyDailies · September 2, 2026

Hockey's schedule carries more fantasy information than any other sport's, and it's the least read.

Not because managers are lazy — because in hockey the schedule doesn't just affect how much a player produces. It decides whether your goalie plays at all.

The full 2026-27 schedule is up, cut six ways.

It's 84 Games Now

Say it out loud because it quietly breaks every projection you carried over: this is the first 84-game season.

Two extra games is roughly 2.4% more of everything — goals, assists, shots, saves, hits, blocks. Any per-season number you remember from last year is two games short, and any ranking built on an 82-game baseline is understating every counting category by the same slice.

It's small per player and it is not small across a roster.

The Calendar

The season opens Tuesday, September 29 — the first Tuesday opener in years — with the first full sixteen-game slate two weeks later on October 13.

Opening week and the holidays covers both ends of the early season, and the second one matters more than people expect.

The holiday stretch runs December 26 through New Year's Day — the busiest week of the winter, and the last clean look at every club before the trade chatter starts. Clubs are evaluated during that week. So are fantasy rosters.

Plus key dates and every game by date.

Back-To-Backs: The Sharpest Page On The Site For Hockey

This is the one to bookmark.

The second night of a back-to-back is where goalies get decided. A club on the second night usually starts its backup — and the market knows it a day late.

Every club is counted, with the dates. And the spread is enormous:

The Penguins play fifteen back-to-backs, the most in the league. The Flames play eight, the fewest.

Nearly double. Roster a Pittsburgh starter and you're accepting seven more nights where he might not go than a Calgary owner ever faces. That's not a small risk on a position where you carry two men and start one.

For streamers it's the whole game — you're hunting the backup's night, and the schedule published in September tells you exactly when it arrives.

Games Per Fantasy Week

The grid counts every club Monday to Sunday, the way a fantasy week actually runs.

A four-game week is worth a third more than a three-game week from the identical skater. Over a twenty-week head-to-head season that compounds into matchups won and lost by managers who never noticed.

Use it as a tiebreaker on every close pick, and again every week when you're deciding who to stream.

Every Club, All 84 Games

Pick any club and get its full season by month — home and away, puck drop in ET, the next game marked, and how many four-game fantasy weeks it draws.

That's the grid answered for one team, which is how you actually use it on draft day.

Into The Draft

The 2026-27 hockey guide does the hard thing: skaters and goalies on one scale by the house system. Comparing a winger to a goaltender is the genuine difficulty in this sport, and most lists drop them in one column and hope.

Plus the category breakdown, top-line targets, sleepers, busts and rookies. Free with a Velvet seat, and it sits alongside the football and basketball guides.

Then the mock simulator — skaters and goalies drafted against each other, position-aware AI, from your exact slot — and the season simulator, where you draft a 16-man roster and play 20 weeks head to head, then run it a hundred times. One season is a story; a hundred is a verdict.

The Boards That Matter In Season

Shots on goal first, always. Volume is a role and finishing is a percentage — a man firing six pucks a night keeps firing six whether they're going in or not. Goals swing violently around that volume; shots barely move. It's both the most reliable prop in hockey and the leading indicator that a scoring run is starting or ending.

Power play is the other one, and for the same reason: first-unit deployment is a coaching decision, not a matchup outcome, which makes it far more predictable than even-strength production.

Goaltending, the full hub, start/sit, the player wire and team streaks.

Betting it? Projections against nine books, BetScore rating every prop 1 to 100, Splits for how often he's cleared it, and our call on every game — graded the next morning on the ledger.

The Honest Part

Hockey is the hardest of the four to model and anyone claiming otherwise is selling something. Bounces decide games, goalies decide months, a puck off a shin pad counts the same as a perfect shot.

Which is exactly why the schedule is worth so much here. Games per week and back-to-backs are the part that isn't luck — published in September, unchanged all year, and sitting there while everyone argues about save percentage.
