Super Bowl Squares Rules

The classic grid — for the Super Bowl or any game. Grab a square, get your random numbers, win by the score’s last digits.

Every FantasyDailies contest is P2P (peer-to-peer). Buy-ins, payouts, and buybacks are settled directly between players and the pool commissioner (Venmo, Zelle, Cash App, PayPal, cash). FantasyDailies never holds, routes, or touches any money and takes no cut. We provide the tools and tracking only.

How Squares work

  1. You start with a 10×10 grid (100 squares). Players claim squares.
  2. Once it’s full, each row and column gets a random digit 0–9. Your square is now a pair of numbers — one for each team.
  3. At the end of each period (Q1, Half, Q3, Final), take the last digit of each team’s score. The square where those two digits meet wins that period’s payout.

Example: score is 17–14 — the winning square is the one at row 7, column 4. Numbers are drawn randomly after the grid fills, so every square has a fair shot.

Payouts & options

The commissioner sets how the pot splits across the four periods (a common split pays more for the Final). Some pools add reverse winners (the digits flipped) or redraw numbers each quarter. Your pool’s rulebook lists exactly what’s on.

How are the numbers assigned?
Randomly, and only after the grid is full — so nobody can pick a “good” square on purpose. Each row and column gets a digit 0–9.
When do I win?
At the end of each scoring period (Q1, Half, Q3, Final), take the last digit of each team’s score. The square at that row/column wins that period.
What’s a ‘reverse’ square?
An optional extra winner using the digits flipped (e.g., if 7–4 wins, 4–7 wins the reverse). The commissioner decides whether reverses are on.
Can I buy more than one square?
Usually yes, up to the per-player cap the commissioner sets. Quick Pick can grab several open squares at random for you.
Is it just for the Super Bowl?
No — squares work for any game (playoffs, a rivalry game, the World Series). “Super Bowl squares” is just the most popular version.
How does the money work?
P2P. The commissioner collects for each square and pays out each period’s winner. FantasyDailies holds nothing and takes no cut.

Taxes & forms (P2P)

FantasyDailies holds no money and issues no tax forms. Any winnings, buy-ins, or commissioner rake are P2P and are your responsibility to report. Depending on your situation you may need an official IRS form — we link to the always-current versions on IRS.gov:
