Rates are computed line by line against the number actually posted each night, so a man who faced half a hit some nights and one and a half on others is measured against what he was given rather than a blended average.
Hit rate is what happened. The projection boards price the same players with tonight's matchup applied — the two together are the argument.

A projection is an opinion about the future. A hit rate is a record of the past — how many times, in real games, this player actually cleared this number. When a book hangs Over 1.5 total bases on a hitter who's cleared it in 9 of his last 10, the color tells you before the math does.
